How to Throw the Best Summer Pool Party?

How to Throw the Best Summer Pool Party?

Milena Kukurekovic

Whenever we think of an outdoor summer party, the first thing that crosses our mind is a pool party. It is the perfect way to freshen up during the summer season and an opportunity to hang out with friends. If you are thinking about throwing a pool party but don't know where to start or what to do, you have come to the right place. We are about to guide you on how to throw the best summer pool party so you can have fun without having to stress about party planning.

Make a Summer Pool Party Checklist

Making a checklist for your party makes the whole process of planning a cinch. You will be able to know what you'll need for the party, and it will save you from those last-moment stresses. Here is a list of the most basic and necessary items you will need for a pool party. Of course, you can always add more things to this list if you want.

Decor and Ambiance:

  • Tables and chairs
  • Patio umbrellas
  • Table centerpieces
  • Tablecloth and napkins
  • Hanging signs
  • Decorations
  • Music
  • Party favors

Meal Planning:

  • Foods
  • Drinks
  • Ice bucket
  • Drink dispenser
  • Ice cream cooler
  • Plates
  • Cutlery
  • Plastic wine glasses bulk
  • Serving utensils

Extras:

  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Hats
  • Trash Bags

Send Out the Invites

Tell your friends the location, theme, date, and time of your party and ask them if they are free that day. Asking your friends if they are free on the day of the party before finalizing the date is always appreciated. If you all decide on a day mutually, it would be perfect and show how caring of a friend you are.

Also, don't keep that formal 'you are cordially invited to the party' tone- there's no need for that. Instead, if it's your friends and family, be informal and ask them via phone.

Select a Theme

Pool party themes are the most interesting ones. You can choose between a watermelon theme, pirates of the Caribbean theme, cocktail theme, beach theme, disco theme, rubber ducks theme, and circus theme.

Other than that, color themes can be exciting for a pool party. For summertime, use bright and bold colors such as lime, yellow, green, blue, and neon pink. You can also have a Mexican Fiesta-themed party with bright colors, and a Mexican feel to it.

Decorate the Pool

Decorating the pool with your friends can be a fun thing to do. Make a balloon garland with colored balloons in different sizes. Tie four balloons together and repeat until you have four sets of four balloons tied together. Using a fishing line, attach these balloon sets to each other. Repeat the process with three different colors. You will have a long garland of balloons.

Make another garland just like the previous one. Now take smaller-sized balloons and tie them with the garland using rubber bands. You will need 5-6 clusters of 3-4 balloons for each part of the garland. Take these balloon garlands outside and attach them to each other.

You can also fill the pool with floating balloons and rubber ducklings. Color-changing balloon lights can also be used.

Decide on the Menu

It can be difficult deciding a menu for your event from a long list of foods. You can't think about the best choice for your party. For a pool party, in particular, you should pick a menu that doesn't include heavy foods.

Set up a colorful party table with foods such as rainbow fruit salad, one-pot spring chicken, one-pot pasta primavera, roasted shrimp veggie salad, and cheese pinwheels.

For the Mexican Fiesta theme we mentioned earlier, you can make guacamole, Mexican corn salad, nachos, stuffed chilies, or Mexican beef tacos.

Set Up a Poolside Bar

Drinks make a pool party go smoothly. Honestly, if there aren't any varieties in cocktails, your guests don't feel so great about the party. It would be too dull to serve the drinks as they are. Instead, set up a cocktail bar by the poolside so your guests can be refreshed and the pool can look aesthetic. Set drinks and disposable wine glasses on it along with a centerpiece.

If you use fancy plastic stemware, you wouldn't even need a centerpiece for the table. The aesthetics of our disposable plastic wine glasses will beautify your poolside cocktail bar. We suggest you use recyclable disposable stemware so you can dump them in a recycle bin instead of carrying them back home.

A budget-friendly way to set up a bar would be by placing a coffee table and making a backdrop using green foliage. Then, for a bright-colored theme, serve orange juice, mango slush, green demon drink, or Hawaiian Blue cocktail.

Entertain with Games

No matter how good of a menu you have, you can't have fun at a pool party if there are no games to play. So here are some ideas to get inspiration from.

Tic Tac Toe - Pool Edition

Play it at your pool party and believe us, you will have a lot of fun. You can buy a floating tic tac toe board for your pool party or even an underwater tic tac toe game.

You can also make your own tic tac toe game. Put a square cardboard piece by the side of the pool. Each player will get their turn to put an item (it can be a scrunchie, rubber band, or anything else you like) after taking a swim across the pool. The first one to arrange the items diagonally, vertically, or horizontally wins.

Inflatable Ball Race

The first one to make his inflatable ball reach the other side of the pool wins. Sounds basic, right? It isn't. The twist here is that you can only use a water squirter and not your hands.

You can also play tug of war, pool basketball, and catch games.

Keep Safety Tips in Mind

Ensure the safety of your guests with these simple but essential tips:

  • Put sunscreen in your bag and encourage everybody to apply it
  • If there are kids, ensure they are under an adult's supervision. Give them floaties, and don't leave them alone.
  • Try staying away from the drainage area of the pool
  • Put your feet in the water first to test it
