Celebrate the Ides of March With A Roman-Themed Party

Celebrate the Ides of March With A Roman-Themed PartyThe Ides of March is on the 15th. It marks the day Julius Caesar was assassinated and is the first day of spring on the Roman calendar. You can use the occasion as the perfect excuse to throw a fun Roman-themed party. Here are a few ideas to give your guests a memorable evening. Encourage your guests to wear togas for the evening. The toga is perhaps the best-known article of Roman clothing and really simple to put together with just a bedsheet and a few safety pins. Throw one of these on and you and your guests will instantly be taken back to your college days. Serve food that the Romans would have eaten. Roman food is very simple and aromatic. A nice salad with radishes, mushrooms and eggs will do the trick. For meat, you can serve a simple poultry dish, and for dessert a honey-sweetened cake with grapes and apples. And, of course, a touch of wine. You want your guests to feel as lavish as possible. Consider bringing some long lawn chairs into the living room and having your guests stretch their legs as you sit and chat. Put on some harp music, and you've got instant hedonism.
